The Florida Alliance for Arts Education in partnership with the Florida Department of State/Division of Cultural Affairs, Museum of Florida Art, and Mary Palmer & Associates, LLC presents:

Artists in Education:  Making Connections
Symposium
Monday, May 18, 2009
8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Museum of Florida Art - Deland


A one-day Symposium to explore the issues, challenges and opportunities in successful Artists in Education programs:  what works and why when artists/ arts organizations and schools work together.  The Symposium is designed to strengthen arts education in Florida by helping teaching artists, schools, and arts organizations develop stronger collaborative connections to meet the needs of students and teachers.

·    School Arts Teachers
·    Parents and Community Leaders


Why?

To share best practices, discuss state and national programs, and address enduring issues. 

Topics will include:

·    Standards-based teaching and learning
·    "School Speak"
·    Designing content to meet students' and school needs
·    Strategies to relate arts-making to school curriculum
·    Connecting arts "field trips" to classroom experiences
·    Roles and responsibilities of partnerships and collaborations
·    Exemplary programs
·    Funding strategies

Cost:  $35.00 per person (includes lunch.)  If more than one person from an organization or school attends, the cost is $25.00 per person.  School/Arts Organization "Friends of FAAE" will be given one complimentary registration.
