Our Schedule:
Volusia County Schools is a charter district with the State of Florida. This designation allows its public schools to develop operational and curriculum waivers specific to the needs and goals. Through this process, Silver Sands Middle School has created an arts rich environment in which students may take up to three arts electives in a year.

Our Pride
As principal of Silver Sands, Dr. Les Potter consistently credits the highly trained and committed staff of teachers in the arts programs for the quality of arts education students receive at his school. Five years ago, the arts program was nearly nonexistent, but creating and then implementing a strategic plan based on hiring the best teachers, providing the appropriate class spaces and resources and actively promoting the programs the school can now boast that half of its students are in the arts. The key to the programs growing and succeeding is the proactive listening and responding of the administration to the arts experts – the teachers! Silver Sands is the only school in Volusia that offers students such a breadth and depth of arts experiences. The community we serve continues to support the teachers and students, as does the rest of the staff at the school, creating a rich environment for all.

A Visit to Our School...
The breadth and depth of our program is amazing considering the challenges facing schools. The entire staff of the school is committed to excellence in all areas of learning and truly believes that the interconnectedness of the middle school experience is instrumental to the success of the students in anything and everything they attempt. We also believe we should have lots of fun while doing the “business of learning”.

Our Special Arts Programs:
We receive no additional district support for any of our programs and our students are those we are zoned to serve. In other words, we are not a magnet and are not affluent. Our teachers and students are testament to what high expectations and hard work can produce – success! We often say, if we can do it – anyone can!
