Helping Middle School Students
Explore Careers in the Arts

Dear Parents,

Thank you for visiting the Exploring Arts Careers website. Just
by being here, you are showing great interest in your child’s
education and future career!

Whether or not your child chooses to pursue a career in an arts-
related field, of which there are hundreds, this will give him/her
insight into how to plan for and dream about their aspired goals.

At first glance, a career in the Arts may seem pretty cut and dry, but
I encourage you to explore along with your child. You might be
surprised at the multitude of fields that are available. Artists,
singers, instrumentalists, or dancers are just some of the people
under the umbrella of The Arts. How about an audio engineer, a
graphic artist, an interior designer, a photojournalist, or a landscape
architect being a possibility?

Please take a look at the “Bank of Careers” on this website and you
will be amazed at the many facets of the Arts in our society today.
As your student finds his/her gifts, talents, and interests, you will
play a key role in supporting and encouraging your child.

Many employers, in and out of arts-related fields are looking for
people who have creative experience. Being involved in the
performing or creative arts in school will certainly give a child an
advantage as they seek a career.

Students should begin NOW to prepare for their future careers.
Making good grades, being involved in co-curricular activities,
serving their community, and planning ahead will move a student to
the front of the line. A student does not need to know specifically
what they will pursue, but should begin to target their interests and
talents.

On this website, we are interested in providing insightful
information about 5 specific career choices. Folks who work in
these careers have provided candid information about their
journeys. Then, there are resources to delve into the hundreds of other
careers.

Additionally, this may open some tremendous dialogue between you
and your child about some of your own career opportunities and
pathways. Students need to know about the joy of doing something
you are passionate about, as well as the economics of a career and
raising a family.

As your child takes a tour, (s)he will be asked to answer some
questions and think about some things related to their own
interests. We want this to be fun, as well as informative. Feel free
to enter the student door and “take the tour.”

Thank you for supporting Florida’s Public Schools and for your
support of the Arts!

Sincerely,
