FAAE, Executive Director Position

The Florida Alliance for Arts Education seeks an experienced and energetic leader, who is committed to advancing arts education throughout the state of Florida, to serve as Executive Director. The Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE) was created in 1989 as a non-profit organization dedicated to arts education throughout the state.

The mission of FAAE is: “To improve, enhance and promote arts education in Florida.” 

Our vision is: “For every child in every school to have a well-rounded education that includes a comprehensive, sequential, high-quality program of arts instruction; and for all Florida communities to have broad-based cultural programs available to support life-long learning in and through the arts.”

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director’s (ED) primary responsibilities are to develop and manage state-wide arts education services, recruit and oversee program consultants and volunteers, secure grants and other funding, prepare and monitor budgets, oversee website and marketing initiatives, and act as an advocate for arts education through participation with various government agencies, school districts and service organizations throughout the state.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of five (5) years of work experience relevant to the position, to include employment by an arts organization, non-profit corporation, school district or other for-profit entity – and including experience such as management, personnel supervision, program management, marketing, accounting, fund development, event planning, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all sectors of the arts education community, and the Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrated track record of government relations, lobbying or advocacy for art education industry a plus.
  • Exhibit a working knowledge of multiple funding streams, e.g. grants, memberships, sponsorships, donations, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and present information to diverse groups.
  • Strong financial management ability, including budget development and fiscal management.
  • Experience and expertise in marketing and public relations, including website maintenance and social media.
  • Experience in event planning and execution 
  • Ability to be entrepreneurial and adaptable; action-oriented and self-directed; energetic and creative with a positive attitude and strong passion for arts education.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state to attend and/or conduct programs, events and meetings.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Manage core programs and operations, including development of programs as well as fulfilling reporting requirements.
  • Plan and execute annual statewide arts education conference.
  • Develop and maintain an aggressive fundraising strategy – search for opportunities – seek corporate sponsorships, expand organization membership and write grant proposals.
  • Meet with the Board of Directors – preparing agendas and meeting documents.
  • Work with the Board to develop and maintain an annual budget.
  • Oversee the management of all funds consistent with the organization’s accounting system – ensuring financial statements are prepared as needed.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with government and school officials, business leaders, civic groups and arts education supporters.
  • Ensure effective systems to track progress, and regularly evaluate programs to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other constituents.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for FAAE’s programs, activities and events throughout the state; articulates and communicates the value of the arts in improving academic achievement, and promotes community support of arts education and FAAE.
  • Design and implement a long term strategic plan and annual action plans, including identifying and driving timelines and resources to achieve strategic goals
  • Communicate with appropriate government and arts education personnel; participate in key arts-related associations and organizations; serve on committees and advisory groups, and speak in public meetings and at community events.
  • Supervise website and social media presence and email marketing.
  • Serve as FAAE’s chief representative to the funding community, with the media, to the education community, and with state and national arts and culture organizations.

CONCLUSION
The Executive Director is not an employee of the Florida Alliance for Arts Education and is a 1099 contracted consultant. FAAE is offering a contract commensurate with the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, within a compensation range of $45,000 to $50,000 per year plus bonus opportunities. This is a full-time position which will require travel throughout Florida at various times throughout the year to attend state-wide meetings, conferences and workshops. Approved travel is reimbursed at the current government rate.  This position requires a home office.
